Unlimited Mobile Plans: The Swiss Comparison

In Switzerland, a flat rate is no longer a luxury but the normal thing. For most people, an unlimited mobile plan is now as much a part of daily life as the morning coffee. The reason is obvious: if you stream all the time, whether on Netflix, YouTube or Spotify, you do not want to keep wondering how many gigabytes are left. Many people also use the hotspot, the mobile connection for a laptop or tablet, as a matter of course. A flat rate gives you full cost control here, no matter how much you actually surf. It is an advantage you will not find in many other European countries.

Even though almost all plans in Switzerland are now unlimited, providers differ in important details that often get overlooked in a comparison.

First up is the minimum contract term. The trend is clearly towards flexibility: more and more providers are dropping long commitments and offering plans with a minimum term of just one month. You can switch at any time without being tied down for years. That is ideal if your needs change or a cheaper deal appears. You can find every plan without a long commitment in our mobile plans with no contract.

Then there is the notice period, and it pays to read the small print. Even plans without a long commitment usually have a notice period, which is between 30 and 60 days depending on the provider. If you do not plan for it, you pay for another month unnecessarily. No disaster, but annoying.

Unlimited data and unthrottled top speed are by no means steep in price in Switzerland. Quite the opposite: online providers and budget brands such as Wingo, Yallo, Digital Republic, GoMo or Galaxus Mobile are locked in a constant price war and regularly launch aggressive promotions. As a result, you often get genuine, unrestricted flat-rate freedom for a fraction of what the big, established network operators charge. Comparing regularly pays off twice: for full freedom and for a slim wallet.
